The UNLV football team has three games remaining this season and after dropping four straight, the Rebels will have to win two of their last three to become bowl eligible. UNLV started the season 4-1, but now sit a 4-5. Six games is the minimum requirement for bowl eligibility.
The Rebels have three games remaining, beginning Friday night at home against MWC West Division leader Fresno State. After that, UNLV travels to Hawaii to face the Rainbow Warriors and then finish at home against arch-rival Nevada.
Fresno State is the only team remaining on their schedule with a winning record. Reminder, six games is good enough to become eligible for a bowl game, but doesn’t necessarily mean a bid will be given.
Perusing some of MWC prognostications for bowls this season, most still have confidence that the Rebels will gain bowl eligibility. MWWire.com places the Rebels in a good matchup against Brigham Young in the RoofClaim.com Boca Raton Bowl in the Florida city on Dec. 20.
NevadaSportsNet.com hasn’t had a recent update, but on Oct. 21 predicted the Rebels to play in the PUBG Mobile New Mexico Bowl on Dec. 17 against Western Kentucky.
CBS Sports has the Rebels playing Iowa State in the First Responders Bowl on Dec. 27 in Dallas.
Athlonsports.com has the Rebels left out of the bowl season. TheAthletic.com has UNLV playing Toledo in the Arizona Bowl on Dec. 30 in Tucson. SI.com has UNLV playing Western Kentucky in the New Mexico Bowl on Dec. 17 in Albuquerque. Lastly, yahoo.com has the Rebels playing in the Frisco (Texas) Bowl on Dec. 17 against Southern Miss.
So, for the most part, prognosticators are still bullish on UNLV’s chances of not only gaining bowl eligibility, but also confident enough to place them in a game.
