Commissioner Justin Jones helped kick off construction of a new bicycle and pedestrian bridge near Desert Oasis High School earlier today.
“This new bridge will physically link the school to the neighborhoods on the other side of the railroad tracks and make it easier and safer for students to walk to Desert Oasis,” said Commissioner Jones, whose Commission District F includes this area. “The bridge will also be part of the regional network of bike paths and provide cyclists with a key connection between the Southern Highlands and Mountain’s Edge communities.”
The project also includes construction of pedestrian-activated flashing lights at Erie and Rainbow Boulevard to help pedestrians and cyclists safely cross Rainbow. The new bridge crosses the railroad tracks near the school and essentially connects two sections of Erie Avenue. The bridge is expected to be finished in October.
CG&B Enterprises is the contractor for this project, which is being largely funded by federal grants that support transportation alternatives and traffic congestion mitigation.
