The heat is rising around the Las Vegas Valley, making the pavement and roads dangerous to both humans and animals. Understanding this unique need, Las Vegas Rescue Mission (LVRM), a nonprofit that provides aid to the homeless and hurting members of the southern Nevada community, is teaming up with Urban Underdogs Corp., a non-profit organization created to help animals in underserved communities in the Las Vegas Valley, to hold a socks and dog paw booties drive for homeless residents and their pets.
The drive will run from May 27 until June 14.
“We are always in need of new, clean socks for the guests of the shelter,” said Heather Williams, director of development for the Las Vegas Rescue Mission. “Our partner organization, Urban Underdogs Corp., came up with the brilliant idea to supply homeless pets with booties to protect their feet from the hot pavement during the summer months. Knowing that many homeless residents are also pet parents, we thought we can help alleviate two needs at the same time.”
“For those of us who live in homes, we have the luxury of making the choice of walking our pets in the early hours or late evenings, avoiding the heat of the day. Unfortunately, for the pets of the homeless, they have no choice. We must do everything we can to protect their paws” said Cynthia Miyamoto CEO and Founder of Urban Underdogs Corp.
For homeless residents, the public can donate new pairs of socks for men, women and children and/or dog paw booties at the following locations during regular hours of operation:
· • Las Vegas Rescue Mission, 480 W Bonanza Rd, Las Vegas, NV 89106
· • The Ferraro Group, 9205 W. Russell Rd, Ste 340, Las Vegas, NV 89148
- Allstate Insurance, 1945 Village Center Cir. #150, Las Vegas, NV 8913

About Las Vegas Rescue Mission
The Las Vegas Rescue Mission has been assisting homeless men, women and children in the community for nearly five decades. Since our beginning in 1970, the Mission has been providing food to the hungry every day, shelter to the homeless, and an addiction recovery and back-to-work program for those who have lost their way. The Mission started with a small storefront building that included the chapel, kitchen and shelter that was able to house a few men. Today, the Mission campus takes up two city blocks in Downtown Las Vegas, helping hundreds of men, women and children daily, and providing approximately 30,000 meals each month. As a nonprofit Christian organization, the Mission receives no government support, except for a small grant specifically for food. It provides services to all people without regard to race, color, creed, national origin, age, gender, religion or disability.
About Urban Underdogs Corp
Urban Underdogs Corp was founded in May 2016 with the vision of serving underserved animals in the Las Vegas Valley. We understand the difficult decisions people must sometimes make after losing a job, a house or wondering where their next meal will come from. For their pets, who have no voice, it can be the difference between life or death. Urban Underdogs takes a very proactive approach to saving lives. We are not a rescue, but a means to keep companion pets out of our local shelters and rescues and with their human. We do this through our Animals (pet food assistance), Nip n Tuck (Spay & Neuter) and No Cooties (Vaccine) programs. We always say we are “Tiny but Mighty’ and in 2018 we touched the lives of over 750 pets in needs and this year we are on pace to help even more. We are a Nevada 501c3 nonprofit corporation. We have no paid employees, and do the work we do through the generosity of our community and our amazing volunteers.
